There is a funny thing about houses and living quarters - they tend to get smaller day by day and there is always an increased need for storage space. In today's economy the cost of real estate is very high and it is not always possible to shift to a new home just because you need more space to live. It is not also always possible to pull down all brick-and-mortar structures and increase space inside your home. You would also agree that tiny houses are the most comfortable and cozy ones. • The basic idea here is to be creative and start thinking out of the box. Your master bed could be used for storing items and also for sleeping! We have a Captain's bed? Make a small investment and turn the portion beneath the mattress into a big box. It's going to be a huge space and you can absolutely sure a lot of items inside it.


• If you have a huge antique trunk inside your house you could use it as a coffee table and let your old coffee table find its place in a garage sale. The trunk could simply be used for storing items and by positioning it perfectly (maybe some modifications would be required in the locks and hinges) you can make a great coffee table out of it. There are a lot of furnishings which have hidden components. You just need to be able to find them and turn them into household storage solution tools.


• The closets that you have inside your house are already taking up a lot of space; you cannot simply throw them out and increase space because they are of great utility to you. You could however add a few more shelves to them and that would help you stack more items inside your closets.


• We often have a couple of pillars inside the house (inside the living area) and they do not serve any other purpose other than holding the roof in its place. These could act as good household storage tools if you're creative enough in using them. A good idea would be to create a couple of shelves and racks entwined around the pillars for storage of books and other small items. This might not seem much to the naked eye, but if you consider the fact that the length of each pillar is at least 10 feet, you would understand what kind of space we are talking about. It is true that the shelves on the top part of the pillar would be too high for your reach, but then you can always have a small ladder to take care of the problem.
